Meet our TUDublin Interns
Earlier this month, we welcomed our Technology University Dublin interns to the DOCOsoft team. Ahmed, Mahim and Yago are all completing a BSc in Computer Science at TUDublin and will be joining us for the next six months, working in the Software Development, Data Analytics and QA teams.
We met with the three interns to take a brief look into the day-to-day tasks that they will be getting involved with, as well as finding out what they hope to have achieved at the end of their internships.
First up, we met with Ahmed who has joined the Software Development team.
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
My name is Ahmed Alazawy, I’m 20 years old and I was born in Iraq but have been living in Ireland for over 14 years now. I am currently studying computer Science in my third year and in this current semester I am partaking in an internship at DOCOsoft. My career goal is to find a comfortable job that will not only allow me to live comfortably but will let me enjoy it to my heart’s content. In my free time, I like to go to the gym and exercise. My main hobbies are playing video games and making videos.
Why did you decide to apply for an internship at DOCOsoft and what do you expect from this Internship?
I decided to apply for an internship at DOCOsoft as they were one of the few companies who gave me a chance to truly prove my worth in the interview. I also applied for this company as I knew that DOCOsoft were not the biggest company in the world, but they certainly had big goals and aspirations for their company, and I figured that I’d fit in well, not to mention the fact that their roles were interesting to me. I hope to gain a great deal of valuable experience that will benefit me in the future. I expect this internship to help me improve as a coder and expand my programming languages knowledge.
What projects will you primarily be working on whilst at DOCOsoft?
I will be primarily working with the development team and will be:
– Identifying and documenting the PII data held in the DOCOsoft CMS
– Adding unit test coverage to DOCOsoft libraries
– Building NuGet packages for the DOCOsoft libraries
– Creating build pipelines in DevOps the DOCOsoft libraries
In six months’ time when your internship comes to end, what do you hope to have achieved?
In six months’, time when my internship comes to an end I expect to most importantly look back and say that I really had a good time working in this company making new friendships and learning a lot from my colleagues. I also hope to gain a lot of self-confidence and self-belief that can last me a lifetime. I expect to become a much more experienced developer who learnt a ton of skills and can solve various problems in a variety of programming languages. Finally, I expect to learn about everything that goes into a claims management company and how companies similarly adapt their software into the insurance market, and their relation to each of their clients.
Next, we spoke with Mahim, who joined the Data Analytics team.
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
My name is Mahim Hossain, I am 20 years old and a full Dubliner, born and raised but also part Bengali! I am currently studying Computer Science at TUDublin and I am in my third year. I love anything to do with technology, when it comes to coding, dismantling a computer out of pure curiosity or even testing out new tech that I just kind of impulse buy on Amazon! That’s the reason why I am studying this field now, to further my knowledge of it and to make a career out of it for myself by the time I graduate.
My day-to-day life can get pretty hectic at times! As a college student it’s a lot of lectures, studying, assignments and many tests and exams (all done with a lot of coffee by my side of course!). It does sound like a lot when I list it like that but trust me you get used to it after a couple weeks! That’s the life of a college student after all (reward yourself with drinks after!). When I’m not being a college student, I work part-time as a kitchen porter on the weekends at the Taphouse Bar and Kitchen in Ranelagh.
It really feels like I have done a complete 180 and I am now working from home as a Data Analytics Intern for DOCOsoft! It feels like I have skipped a couple steps and I am suddenly in the working world.
But when I am not just working and studying, I do like to spend my free time reading a good book. Now and then I will practice my art as well! I draw traditionally and digitally, mainly comic/cartoon characters. I love frequenting the cinema as well, especially at night, as a late-night movie feels really good after a hard day’s work. I also love to play video games with my friends!
Why did you decide to apply for an internship at DOCOsoft and what do you expect from this internship?
The reason why I applied for DOCOsoft was that I felt a little intimidated when it came to applying to bigger tech companies, let’s say Google, Amazon, Facebook etc. I felt the need to start small and then work my way up from there.
DOCOsoft seemed like the perfect company for me to jumpstart my working life and finally get the experience I have been really wanting for a while now. I expect myself to have a better knowledge of work life and have a better understanding of the process tech companies do when it comes to releasing software to different clients.
What projects will you primarily be working on whilst at DOCOsoft?
I will be working across a range of projects in the analytics team, including working on our internal company analytics system, which helps optimize our processes internally. I will also be part of the team that works on the customer-facing analytics that uses data visualisation and machine learning to help our customers turn data into insights.
Mahim’s team leader added, “we trust our interns and we give them real work to do that allows them to demonstrate and develop their skills, so Mahim will also be a full team member in an exciting new robotics project which will intelligently automate repetitive tasks currently undertaken by humans.”
In six months’, time when your internship comes to an end, what do you hope to have achieved?
I hope over the six months I have gained a lot of experience when it comes to the work environment. That I have improved on skills, such as teamwork, communication, presentation and even more.
I also hope to have made many friends along this amazing journey and hope to have these connections in the near future!
Lastly, we met with Yago who has joined the QA team.
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I have a passion for coding and creating software and working with computers in general. Currently I am a 3rd year undergraduate student. Ever since I was first introduced to C++ in my PLC course, I found great enjoyment in figuring out how to make code come together to produce a satisfying result for the end user. Since then, I have dabbled in many languages such as Python, C, and Java I can see myself working in this field for the rest of my life.
Throughout my IT education I have been introduced to many different areas such as Networking, Databases, Cloud Computing etc. Some projects I have worked on include: An ATM system within C++ where a customer can withdraw, deposit, and review their balance with a text line interface. A Platforming game built within GameMaker1.4(C++) that includes jumping, gravity, shooting mechanics etc. A Lottery system within C that prompts the user to enter a combination of number and checks how close they were to winning. A website library system using HTML, CSS and a PHP backend that prompts a user to sign in and allows them to rent out a book, return a book and see the amount of books they have taken out. Those are just a few examples, but needless to say, my studies have been quite varied thus far.
Outside of my IT career I have a great personal interest in Japan and its culture and as such I am pursuing fluency in the Japanese language. I have been learning Japanese for over one year. In my free time I spend time reading Japanese books or watching Japanese media and studying vocabulary as I hope to be able to sit the highest level of the exam at the end of 2022.
Why did you decide to apply for an internship at DOCOsoft and what do you expect from this Internship?
I applied for a Software Tester position at DOCOsoft because in a testing position you contribute to the betterment of the product, solving of issues, and the perfection of project procedures by detecting and tracking defects and generating ideas for improvement. Solving problems in software testing and creating a good experience for clients I perceive to be a rewarding experience. I also feel that with a growing company like DOCOsoft I may be given the opportunity to contribute in a meaningful way.
What projects will you primarily be working on whilst at DOCOsoft?
During my time I will be working on client projects using an Agile scrum methodology and testing the Claim Management system. I will also gain exposure to automated, security & performance testing which I am really looking forward to.
In six months’ time when your internship comes to end, what do you hope to have achieved?
By the end of my internship, I hope to have acquired the necessary skills to be a competent software tester. I hope to get a good grasp of the different systems available and their features, the testing process and interpersonal skills required to carry out projects smoothly. The skills and relationships I acquire at DOCOsoft I hope to impact my career, and my experience here to leave a lasting positive impression for the coming years.
That wraps up our intern profiles! We’re delighted to have Ahmed, Mahim and Yago on board for the next 6 months, working with them to expand their existing skills and knowledge.
